002: Is Thought Leadership For You

How to Decide If Thought Leadership Is For You. In this first of a four-part podcast series is to determine if you are ready to be a thought leader. If you are ready, then how to get started.

As a woman leader in corporate, this is not an activity that comes naturally to you. I have devised a 90-day plan to ease into this so you can build momentum, see if this is for you, and complete the tasks in 5-10 minutes a day.

By taking this first step, you will realize that sitting on your plateau and figuring out your next step is only getting you frustrated.

QUESTIONS THAT ARE ANSWERED IN THIS PODCAST

[1:10] What criteria used to see if you are a Thought Leader

[2:30] What are your success criteria for the 90-day thought leadership Challenge?

[3:30] Where do you get the information to share your thought leadership?

[4:30] What is the secret to committing to share your thought leadership?

[5:00] How to take the first step to share your thought leadership?

Is Thought Leadership For You

So you want to know how to determine if you are ready to be a thought leader. Awesome, you are in the right place.

There are a couple different criteria that you need to understand and look at to see if this is going to be the right decision for you:

1. Do you have at least 15 years of experience in an industry that you love?
2. Are you an expert? Do people already come to you for information?
3. Do you know how to and are already inspiring, motivating, consulting, advising, educating and are already a visionary?
4. If you answered yes to those questions, then the second part of these criteria is, are you ready to commit to creating content regularly?

What is Content?

Content is defined by blog posts, or posts, videos, any format to share your expertise. And, eventually, speaking at conferences and events, then writing a book.
The frequency of regularly is at least weekly, maybe even daily.

Now, don’t freak out if that sounds pretty overwhelming right now.

I’ve got you covered. And a plan laid out here for the next 90 days to kind of just do a test to see if you like it.

The next 90 days to allow you to dip your toe into the water, see if it’s something that you like. All in 10 minutes a day.

At the end of 90 days, what success criteria will you use, how will you determine at the end if you want to continue? I would invite you to answer 2 questions:
Did you like it, if no, then stop here?
Would you like enough to be in it every day?

There are a series of activities over 90 days that are broken into 3 phases of activities over 30 days, taking about 5-10 minutes each day.

The final 30 days will pull it all together.

Then, ultimately, having you decide if you want to purchase your domain and really get your blog going and you’re ready to go full bore on being a thought leader.

Don’t Be A Best Kept Secret

Other thought leaders have shared with me, that you are reading other people, you read up on your competition; you read up on your peers; you read up on other folks in the industry. That means you’ve got some information coming in.

I also know that you are a subject matter expert, or SME, you’re a consultant, you’re a VP, and you’re ready to step out of the shadows and become visible.

You do not want to be the best-kept secret anymore.

You are tired and frustrated at helping other people and having them shine, and you’re ready to step into the spotlight and get the credit you deserve and your mojo back.

All those areas and criteria and information I just want you to be aware of before you jump in.

Again, it’s only 90 days, so you can commit to that and see if you like it, and then decide at the end.

As Mel Robbins shares in her book, The 5 Second Rule, if you want to start a new action, begin within five seconds.

So starting, take your first step right now… 5…
