How my Theme of The Year pushed me to take action

Why the heck I would commit to posting every day on LinkedIn Monday through Friday for three months?

Well, there’s a couple of things that came into play and let me share with you my journey.

It had to do with one, sharing my message and reaching more people into my annual theme.  Every year I come up with a theme of things that I wanna work on.  It was about November and December and I was thinking about what did I want my theme to be for the upcoming year.

What is something that I want to improve or add to my schedule or work on?

And it didn’t take me long to figure out to look at the previous year’s theme (2017), to see what my theme was and decides to do the same thing.

My them was consistency across content, creativity, and fitness.

How a pain became a gain

And the one that I was struggling with was the content.

I had to figure out a way to fix this because what I’m doing ain’t working.  I needed something to push me out of my comfort zone and I needed to learn something because what I was doing was just clearly not working.

So I had my theme, I was pushing myself to really meet my goal of sharing my message, right?

My message is really important – I wanna work with other women and help them impact and influence more

I’ve been having conversations with women and it’s the same conversation that I’m having with many of them.  I am also repeating the same information and I wanna make sure I can get that to more women so that I can have more impact on them.

Inspiration from a complete stranger

I follow other thought leaders and stuff from other people in different industries.  Oftentimes I will join other social networks just to see what’s going on, listen to the voice. the vibe.  So I’ll, you know, stop in every week or two just to see what was going on.

I happened to be following this photographer on Instagram called John D’Amato.  I don’t even remember how I started following this gentleman.

It was not long after I began following him that I saw a post come across my Instagram feed that said something about why he posts every day.

I read that article and remember specifically thinking “heck no”, I could never do that. That’s too difficult.  I could never come up with that much content, especially on a daily basis.

Then it hit me.

You know how sometimes you just have to be in the right place?

Well, it hit me.

And I decided okay, that’s what I need to start doing.  Here’s another thought leader that’s sharing content on a daily basis. I can do it too.

My 90 Day Plan

At the beginning of the year, I will do a 90-day push. I can do anything for 90 days, I’m gonna commit to it and we’ll just go from there and we’ll see what happens. I might fail, I might adjust, I might succeed but let’s just see what happens.

I did it to spread my message.  To ensure I could get content out there on a regular basis.

Also because what I was sharing on LinkedIn was not getting any engagement and it was barely getting any views. I had started on that path about three or four years prior as a short-term fix until I decided what to start blogging about.  I just started sharing links to articles and sometimes I would add my own comments on it and sometimes I wouldn’t.

But it was supposed to be a short-term fix. I just wanted to share information of things that I read and I was getting feedback from people that liked and enjoyed it but people just weren’t seeing it so I needed to switch things up so there were multiple reasons that I wanted to do it.

There were a handful of reasons I wanted to do this 90-day push.  I would encourage you to push yourself out of your comfort zone too.

Next Steps: Why I Started To Post Daily For 90 days

Here are the items to begin moving forward:

  1. Find the top people that are on Pinterest or Instagram or LinkedIn and make sure that they’re not in your age group and not in your industry or not in your geographical area so you can have a totally different perspective of what other experts are doing.
  2. So start following those people to see what inspires them and see what they’re doing.
